Email Setup
New Interface (Released 2006, Unix-based hosting customers)

In the new version of the email interface, you have more flexibility with your email accounts.  Now the same email address can serve as both a POP and a forwarder, or you can even add an autoresponder (autoreply) to it.  See below for instructions on using this new setup system.

To Add a New Account

Click the Add New Account button at the top of the page.  In the pop up window, enter the username (the part before the @ symbol) that you wish to use for this email account, and check the boxes for the features that you want to use on this particular address.  For each option that you select, more information will appear below to fill out.

For the POP settings, enter your preferred password.

For forwarder settings, you can enter one or several email addresses to forward mail to.  Please include each unique email address on its own line (separated with a "return carriage" or "enter").  For group forwarding, the limit is typically around 20 email addresses (there is no exact number but there is a character limit).

For autoresponder settings, type your message in the first box, and your preferred Subject in the second box.  The last box labeled "Also Notify" allows you to include another email address that you want to forward copies of the incoming emails to.  (For example, if you will be away from your computer for a few days, you can create a temporary "out of office" message and also include a coworkers email address in the Also Notify box so that he/she can receive copies of your emails and assist with them while you are gone.

Editing Current Settings

Beside each active email address, there are 3 columns for POP, Forwarder, and Autoresponder.

If a feature is already activated for that address, the icon will be green and say "Active".  If you want to edit the current settings of an active feature, you can simply click on this "Active" button.  The wizard will display your current settings and allow you to edit, replace, or delete them.

If a feature is not enabled for that address, the button under the column will be a red "Off".  You can click this button to enable the feature with some new settings.

Deleting An Email Account

If you want to completely remove a certain email address from the list, you simply need to delete any features that are "active" for that address.  Once all features are set to "off", the email account will no longer exist and will be removed from the list.  (If the email address still appears after deleting all the features, please try refreshing your web browser.)

Catch-all Address

The "catch-all" address will accept any emails that are addressed to misspelled or bogus email addresses at your domain name.  It can either forward those messages to someone, or it can auto-reply with some pre-written text (eg: "Sorry, there is no mailbox by that name at this domain. Please check the spelling and try again.").

By default, this setting is usually set to "active" and will forward all non-specific messages to the admin contact for the hosting account.  If you only want to receive emails that are specifically addressed to persons in your list of setup email accounts, you may delete this setting so that it is set to "off".

Old Interface (Released prior to 2006, Windows hosting customers) The Email setup feature contains all control for setting up POP3 email accounts, email forwarders/aliases, group forwarders, auto-responders, and a catch-all email address.

POP3 email accounts are mailboxes used for your website email and which are checked from the server directly. Click here for further instructions on setting up a new POP3 email account through your Control Panel.  A person may setup a POP3 account and retrieve their mail using a program like Eudora Mail or Microsoft Outlook. Click here for instructions in how to setup your email programs.

An Email Forwarder/Alias is an email address in which all emails are automatically forwarded to an alternative existing email account. For instance, you may forward all email to info@youdomain.com to joesmith@aol.com. Click here for further instructions on setting up an Email Forwarder.

An Autoresponder is an email address that will automatically reply to someone with a pre-determined response. Click here for further instructions on setting up autoresponders.

Your catch-all email address is a convenient "safety" feature that will capture all emails that were sent to an unspecified recipient at your domain name. This can be handy for cases in which a person misspells someone's name. Click here for further instruction regarding catch-all email.
